Why do we do it ?

If developing communications solutions takes so much work and effort then… Why do we do what we do?

We have all felt how some communication element has touched our lives. It was something in a newspaper, a memorable game, or even that birthday card that we coveted to be guests to. Those moments we recall, and while we recall them, we refresh them. There is no escape, design has infiltrated our lives. Design is capable of incite desire; improve relationships, create an impact on production, or able to change a tendency. It is capable of speaking loud, of whispering, of carrying a business to success or failure. What inspires us confidence? Why do we choose one particular product? Why do we prefer a place to carry out the purchases? What is that invisible thing that drives us to feel better in an environment?

Let’s make an experiment, picture yourself in a garbage dump… right now your mind is creating a setting, mounting a scene, appointing actors, associating perfumes, including sounds and movement or absence of them. If I alter any of the elements of the setting created in your mind, as the perfume for example, dissociation will be created among what senses perceive. Take the contrary case, imagine a little house at the Swiss meadow and instead of flowers or pasture fragrance, flood the scene with the smell of the city garbage dump. Unpleasant uh?

While we think about any project, we instantly build an image in our mind. Often it’s a little diffuse, especially on its result and benefits. But still, there is something that lacks. We have the certainty of the situation where we actually are, call it point A. Besides we have an idea, a sensation, of the state that we want to achieve, let’s call it point B. Which is the plan to get from one point to another? We have the answer: DESIGN. With the design we can begin to visualize the details and niceties that are involved.

Let’s put the example of a chair. Imagine that you are the responsible for creating a unique chair, never ever built. Surely an idea is coming to life in your mind. The conditions that should comply are: comfortable for people with spinal issues, possibility for use by children and elders, durable and light for any moving. Aja! It isn’t as easy as it seemed. Now you notice it’s not a simple chair, it’s a solution for a portion of the commercial market. Your mind builds different images, the chair is distorted, changes color and form, changes its texture and still continues changing. Have you got a better idea of this adorable chair? Very well, very good work, we are very proud of such innovative design. Can you tell me how many screws are needed to built it? :)

This example helps us notice how necessary design is during the construction of any kind of solution. If during the "creation" process you haven´t yet determined how you are going to build it and what will you be needing for doing so, we can foretell that your chair will take much more time than the expected and surely some hematoma in those who test it. Or were you thinking in placing it in the store without any testing?

Ok, what do we mean with this tedious example? That there exists a road that connects point A (your need) and point B (chair in the store) and that you must inevitably think in design if you want to connect them. This is the moment where we enter in scene. To delineate the road that connects these two points: your communication need and your communication solution. Often people ask us how can we live thinking about the correspondence of the different elements involved in a scene, in that the little house on the meadow doesn´t smell like trash, or that the blessed chair comply all the requirements and to reckon almost with precision the quantity of screws that one must buy.
